Each participant is interviewed before coming on the program, to identify personal objectives and assist with the careful matching to school and host family.
In this introductory workshop you are oriented to the New Zealand education
system and basic cultural differences. You meet and get to know your placement buddy
teacher, to ensure that the relationship is a happy and compatible one. You meet your New
Zealand family and discuss expectations and concerns before you begin your stay.
You could be accompanied by another overseas participant in your school. Each of you will have your own buddy teacher to help you to recognise and reflect on the intangibles of your experience. You will also visit other schools in the immediate vicinity. You will meet with the other participants in your group at least once a week to exchange ideas and reflect on what you are experiencing.
During your stay you may complete assignments for credits towards your
Graduate Continuing Studies. These are determined by you in negotiation with us and the
school. They will include things like ...
At the end of the program, you will meet again to debrief and plan for specific action that you will take as a result of your experiences.
Accreditation will follow the successful completion of the New Zealand Reading Safari.
